Donabel Santos, Data Warehouse Technical Lead, Development and Alumni Engagement, University of British Columbia
George Firican, Data Quality Manager, University of British Columbia
In this information age – and in the recent boom of open data – we have more information at our disposal to help us understand our constituents better. In this session, learn ways to effectively visualize all of this information to help drive strategic decision making. Discuss metrics that you can add to your fundraising metric toolkit, and explore different data sets (i.e. social media data) that may add value and insight for fundraisers.
From an Ivory Tower to a Public Square
Shauna Sylvester, Executive Director, Simon Fraser University Public Square, Simon Fraser University
In 2011, SFU undertook extensive consultation to identify the core strengths on which to build its future. The input received inspired a vision of SFU as the “engaged university.” In response emerged “SFU Public Square” – a signature initiative designed to spark, nurture, and restore community connections, and to establish SFU as the go-to convener of conversations about issues of public concern. Through collaborative programming and annual community summits, SFU Public Square harnesses and builds upon the strengths of the university. It aims to re-engage the public and support the structures that are critical to the development of strong democratic processes.
